July 2026 | Convex quality and innovation was recognised at the 2026 Pride in Print Awards with a Highly Commended and a Gold Medal for the Bay Blue Blueberries recyclable pouch.
The Highly Commended win was in the Flexible Packaging Category, and the Gold Medal was in Industry Development.
Convex Account Manager, Mark Hughes, attended the awards night in Christchurch on behalf of Convex and the client, and was delighted when the win was announced. His customer Bay Blue is a boutique berry grower with a focus on sustainability – they have been recognised by the New Zealand Farm Environment Trust for their farming and growing practices, and they choose all their packaging based on environmental impact.
The Bay Blue Blueberries Pouch is a duplex laminate structure that can present some challenges when running through the factory, as one of the layers has a tendency to stretch if not handled carefully – but the finished result is an LDPE pouch that is accepted in all #4 soft plastic recycling streams. Convex Operations Manager, Aaron Collett, has credited everyone involved, especially the team who oversaw the detailed printing, with this fantastic outcome.
