Compostable NatureFlex™ wrapping

A California company has achieved a world first by choosing to wrap their new range of organic nutrition bars in compostable NatureFlex™ film.

Based in San Diego, GoodOnYa was founded by former Olympic athlete Kris Fillat. The company began with the GoodOnYa deli, which offered healthy breakfasts and lunches based on locally produced organic food. The GoodOnYa bar is a natural extension of this philosophy, where every ingredient is carefully chosen for its nutritional value while considering the health of the environment.

GoodOnYa founder Kris Fillat says, "We are the first company in the world to use this [packaging] for a bar wrapper. It is cutting edge eco-packaging, which is shiny and looks great. This is the change our earth desperately needs."

The packaging material used for GoodOnYa's product range is made from metallised NatureFlex™ NM laminated to high gloss transparent NatureFlex™ NVS film. NatureFlex™ NM is cellulose-based film having high lustre metallisation for enhanced product impact. It provides excellent moisture barrier for increased shelf life of hygroscopic products and also has a very high gas barrier. Besides being biodegradable and compostable, NatureFlex™ films provide anti-static properties, high gloss and transparency, chemical resistance and a number of heat-seal grades.

Made by Innovia Films, NatureFlex™ films are made from cellulose derived from renewable wood pulp and are available in New Zealand from Convex Plastics.

Roslyn Smith of Innovia Films says, “NatureFlex™ films offer many advantages. They are not only biodegradable and compostable for those packer processors keen to use sustainable packaging but also have a technical performance second to none. Congratulations to GoodOnYa bar for their vision, passion and drive to align their packaging message with the spirit of their product marketing, by providing caring consumers with a biodegradable, naturally-based packaging material.”
