New Bio-Degradable Water Tubes

Convex Plastics, March 8th, 2010

Convex Plastics has developed a working prototype of a fully bio-degradable clear flexible water tube for drinks and other liquids.

Made from modified Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) with good clarity and high tear strength, the new water tubes are resistant to impact shock and do not appear to compromise the taste of the packaged liquid.

Convex Managing Director, Owen Embling says, “The functionality of these water tubes for the food manufacturing and beverage industries looks really promising. We were initially unsure of how the film would impact the flavour of the packaged liquid but preliminary trials suggest that this is not an issue.  Further testing is still required to determine the stability of the film over time, and it’s resulting expected shelf life.”

The water tubes are currently being commercially trialled in Australia for packing a range of liquid food compounds.
