New Bio-degradable Film Offers Good Clarity for Retail

Convex Plastics, December 3rd, 2008

Retailers wanting packaging that is bio-degradable, functional and clear enough to showcase their products on shelf, can now have it all with EcoFuse.

Made from 45% Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) derived from cornstarch and 55% biodegradable Polyester - the new hybrid film is stiff and clear with good tear resistance, impact resistance and seal strength.

Convex Technical manager, Andrew Sheerin, says although the polyester portion of the packaging is made from non-renewable resources, it is bio-degradable and behaves exactly like organic waste when disposed, and the new EcoFuse film meets European compostable standards.

Andrew says, “The fusion of the two technologies has allowed us to offer a fully compostable film that meets the functionality requirements that a lot of our clients have been asking for. EcoFuse offers similar properties to Greensack, with the advantageous addition of improved clarity and stiffness. It is also much easier to work with than 100% PLA, which although it offers better clarity, is very stiff and crinkly and doesn’t seal as well ”

The slightly pearlescent EcoFuse film has good contact clarity and is particularly ideal for retail applications where good shelf appeal is required.
