Total Produce Packaging Provided By 2~Fresh Ideas
Convex Plastics, September 15th, 2000A recently won contract to distribute Peakfresh packaging in New Zealand is now enabling Convex Plastics to provide 2~fresh ideas for extending the life of fruit, herbs and vegetables all the way from its growing point right to the supermarket shelf.
Targeted mainly at the bulk end of the produce market, Peakfresh packaging is an ideal complement to Convex Plastics' existing re~fresh packaging which is predominantly used for the retail packaging of minimally processed fruit and vegetables.
Peakfresh packaging is available as green or clear-coloured carton and bin liners for transporting bulk produce to markets, or between growing and processing points. Peakfresh is a mineral impregnated film that absorbs and removes ethylene gas given off by the stored produce which slows down the ripening process. The film has excellent gas permeability and deodorising properties and maintains high levels of humidity to reduce shrinkage.
All Peakfresh film is certified for the packaging of organically grown produce, and meets the standards of the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements.
re~fresh modified atmosphere packaging, on the other hand, is scientifically custom-designed to exactly match the handling conditions and respiration rate of the specific packaged produce. re~fresh films extend the life of fresh produce by manipulating the amount of O2 and CO2 contained within the packaging, and are especially ideal for manufacturing high print presentation ready-made retail bags for minimally-processed produce such as mixed salads, peeled carrots and stir fry mixes.
According to re~fresh Product Manager Stephen Dench, "Having the two complementary films allows us to provide our customers with exactly what they need. In some cases, the same client may need both forms of packaging for two separate applications such as the transporting of freshly picked produce to the processing point, and then the retail packaging for the supermarket shelves. Other customers may need only one form of packaging, and we can now give them the option of choosing the one that will best suit their individual needs and budget."
