New Microwavable Packaging Enables Traditional Steaming of Fresh Cut Produce
Convex Plastics, December 23rd, 2004
Microwavable packaging that enables the quick and convenient traditional steaming of fresh cut produce is now available in New Zealand from Convex Plastics.
Utilising innovative Japanese technology, the new packaging incorporates a special valve which evenly distributes the heat and makes microwaved food taste better. Systeam also caters for the growing consumer craving for easily prepared healthy foods by enabling the speedy cooking of vegetables in a way that minimises the loss of important nutrients, vitamins and minerals.
Convex Plastics has just obtained the New Zealand fresh cut license for Systeam packaging and is already exploring its application for a range of fresh cuts, including asparagus and stir-fry mixes.
According to Convex laboratory manager, Andrew Sheerin, Systeam allows marketers to distinguish themselves in the marketplace by providing consumers with an added value packaging that makes it easy for them to prepare and eat more vegetables.
He says, “The packaging can be tailored to suit every size from single serve to family meals, and no modification of existing packaging machines is needed to run the film.”
In Japan the Systeam process is the favoured microwave cooking technology and more than 500 million packs are produced this way each year.
