New Flower Wraps Maximise The Export Presentation Of Fresh Cut Flowers
Convex Plastics, March 10th, 2005
A new high clarity flower wrap recently developed in Hamilton has already secured an Australian distributor thanks to its proven effectiveness for maximising the export presentation of fresh cut flowers.
Incorporating ethylene absorption characteristics to minimise moisture loss and damage, the new wrap known as Flora-Fresh is ideal for maximising the presentation and branding of a wide variety of packaged flowers. It also provides a cost effective packaging option for flower varieties which do not require the extended shelf life provided by modified atmosphere films.
Unlike the sealed modified atmosphere packs, Flora-Fresh works as an open-ended wrap - making it an ideal packaging option for situations where forced air cooling, fumigation, or open bag customs inspections are required.
Flora-Fresh was developed by Convex Plastics in conjunction with Tauranga-based company Ellbee Ltd. Ellbee Ltd have worked closely with Convex Plastics for several years as the exclusive New Zealand distributors of the Hamilton company's modified atmosphere re~fresh flower liners. As well as continuing to grow the re~fresh market, Ellbee Ltd will now also be driving the distribution of Flora-Fresh in Australasia and have already made some excellent progress. They have recently secured a distribution agreement with an Australian grower co-operative specialising in export quality Australian natives, including Christmas Bush, Flannel Flowers and Banksia.
According to Ellbee Ltd director Derek Lankshear, the Australian co-operative decided to distribute Flora-Fresh after finding it to be both effective and economical for exporting some of their own crops to Japan, USA and Europe.
Derek says, “The film's ability to be custom printed is also a big plus as it provides individual growers and co-operatives with the option of maximising their market presence by branding the film with their logo.”
Flora-Fresh wrap has also been designed as a protectant wrap to prevent damage in transit, and its clarity has been optimised to give retailers a product that can be displayed straight from the box.
Flora-Fresh packaging is available in both 500 and 200 metre rolls, making it a cost effective packaging option for both large and boutique growing operations.
