Microwavable re~fresh Packaging Combines Long Life With Convenience

Convex Plastics, May 1st, 2001

The extra freshness, lowered freight costs and maximised consumer convenience provided by Convex Plastics' new microwavable re~fresh produce bags are expected to be a hit with both processors and consumers.

Successful market trials have recently been completed for fresh pre-prepared corn cobs, and life extension microwavable re~fresh packaging has also been developed for several other varieties of produce, including broccoli and cauliflower.

re~fresh produce bags offer high quality flexographic printing in up to eight colours with heat resistant inks, and can be either microwaved or boiled.

Zeafruit Company Ltd area manager, Peter Hoogerbrug, says test-marketing of their new 'Eat Gisborne' microwavable corn cob packs highlighted several key benefits of the re~fresh packs. These included increased consumer shelf appeal due to the enhanced presentation of the packaged product, an extended shelf-life of up to 12 days, and freight efficiencies due to having the husks removed from the cobs before packing.

According to Convex Plastics re~fresh product manager, Stephen Dench, "Consumers like the convenience of not having to prepare their vegetables, but they still want the satisfaction of cooking it themselves. Along with providing both of these, the Microwavable re~fresh packaging also enables busy people to buy their fresh produce several days, or even a week in advance and still enjoy them at their best."
