Maximum Design Versatility Provided By New Printing Press
Convex Plastics, August 7th, 2004
The arrival of a brand new printing press has more than doubled the printing capacity of Convex Plastics and strengthened their position as a leading provider of innovative flexible packaging solutions.
The new 70 tonne Windmoller and Holscher printing press was the final stage of a $4 million expansion programme designed to enhance the company's ability to service its growing trans-Tasman customer base and provide more rapid turnarounds.
Although only two thirds of the size of their current press, the new sleeved, gearless Olympia Primaflex CM printing press is capable of putting through twice as much work, and is twice as quick at changeover. However, it's the potential of printing up to 16 colours in register that excites the company the most. It's an accomplishment that apparently has never been achieved before and that's just the type of challenge this company thrives on.
Managing Director, Owen Embling says, “Pushing the limits of both technology and design is something we have become very good at, and it has definitely benefited our customers. Our ultimate goal is to provide our customers with packaging that not only does the job they want, but also provides them with a competitive advantage. The enhanced printing capability of the new press will give them the opportunity to be very different with their designs and produce a point of sale visibility that really stands out in the marketplace. The faster turnarounds will also enable us to respond a lot more quickly to customer demands without compromising either printing design or quality.”
When it comes to printing, Convex Plastics is already widely recognised for both their quality and skilled personnel. Over the past ten years four of their apprentices have won the coveted Dupont Award for best flexographic printing apprentice, and the company has secured a number of prestigious printing awards including two Pride in Print supreme finalist gold medals.
With the new press now enabling them to potentially provide combinations of up to 16 spot and process colours, Embling says the company can now offer their clients maximum design and branding versatility and the possibility of creating something completely unique. For instance, the new press can now make it possible to produce a two-sided printed banner to hang above a site at a trade fair or expo, with a different message or graphic on each side.
